D.5 Combination of Square known?

Post by Herobone » Wed 27 Oct 2021, 09:16

Hello,

First of all, this post is in English since I only can talk and read french and don’t want to use Google Translate for this text.

Secondly: In D.5 and Figure 10 there are four different combinations of the excavation squares are defined. But the question is now, are they know before the start of the match, so can we tell the robot where wich square is? Or is the only option for finding the correct squares to measure the resistance? So will the referee say at the beginning of the match for example “In this round, combination 3 of the excavation squares will be used”. I can’t find anything about this in the rules.

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

Indeed it is not explicit in the rules.

However, here is how is was done previously:
- 3 minutes to setup your(s) robot(s)
- From this point you can only interract with the robot with your starting cord/device, therefore you cannot supply it with any data
- Then the referees pick one combinaison at random, and move the elements accordingly
- Then countdown and the match starts

The only option for finding all the correct squares is indeed to measure the resistance (or to deduce it from the limited combinaisons).

Here is how in was phrased (in French) in the 2019 rules (D.5.b):
L’ordre de leur disposition devant les cases du tableau périodique est aléatoire et change à chaque match. Un tirage par les arbitres est effectué avant le début du match, c’est-à-dire après le temps de préparation, et s’applique de façon identique aux deux équipes.
Which would translate to:
The order of [...] is random and changes with each game. A draw by the referees is carried out before the start of the match, that is to say after the preparation time, and applies identically to both teams.

Hello there,
The combination of square will not be knowned by the team before the match.
Referees will pic at random on of the three posible combinations when both teams are ready and they will change accordingly.
As we did in sail the world for the buoys.

Thanks for the answers. We just saw it in a couple of robots in the 2019 Competition. There the Teams were able to set the correct block sequence before the match.
