Hi!

Haven't seen this information here - maybe it's interesting for someone.

Should be exciting to fly with the robots and technical stuff - especially after the resent bombing at Moscow airport...

See you there :)

In the official Russian website (http://www.eurobot-russia.ru/) , it is written that they have submitted a formal application for hosting the event.

However, I don't see any official announcement of the Eurobot 2011 location.

ähM_Key: did you only mean that Astrakhan is a *candidate* location or do you actually know the final decision of the Eurobot Committee ??

If so, please tell us :)

You shouldn't worry about security enforcements )
As I have seen it caused only additional checks at the airport entrance...

The regional Government Chairman Konstantin Markelov writes here: http://www.eng.komarkelov.ru/news/2011.103

"On June, 27 – July, 4 the final stage of an International robotics competition “Eurobot” will take place in Astrakhan."

Have the dates changed ?

Increasingly team have questions about the trip to Russia.
And more and more think they do not come to Russia to participate Eurobot given the lack of information. Investing in a journey so little information and attempt the journey would it not unreasonable.
We would however be aware before taking the discision to come or not, if:
- There will be fast track procedures for obtaining visas?
- There will be reduced tickets for travel to Russia?
- Housing and food will be provided by Eurobot?

How to get a robot on a plane to Russia and be assured it will arrive in good condition at the end of the trip?
It would not be easier to achieve for charter flights from Paris to teams of Western Europe (Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium)

Dear teams,

We know you are waiting for information and we perfectly understand that it is urgent for you to receive details on the finale.

On the 17th of February, we agreed to have the finale 2011 in Astrakhan, from 21 to 27 of June.
Thought, later our host asked us some changes, one of them being the dates.
This explains the delay in giving you more details. Indeed, we are actually working on that topic with them.

As soon as possible, and no later than Friday 6th of May, we will come back to you with as many information as we can.
So far, and with all the reserved required by the current negotiations, Russian committee proposes:
*) to welcome the event from 28 of June to 2 of July
*) to provide letters of invitation and ease visa process
*) to ease the process with customs and robots as soon as they are on the Russian soil
*) to offer accommodation and food for free to 5 persons per team
Regarding flights, we insisted on the fact that the cost might be a problem for teams to join the event, so that any help will be good. We know they currently work on possible solutions to provide supports to teams, but we can’t tell you more tonight.

Looking forward to meeting all of you soon,

Very sincerely
Veronique Raoul, for Eurobot association

That's still very little piece of information...

I can't understand that such a huge project involving different countries has no fixed dates 2 months before the event. And I can't understand the choice of the location for the finals. The price for the flights is really a big problem, and the accomodation and food for only 5 person will not help a lot.

The finals will be attempted only by a few (rich) supporters, and maybe some selected teams simply won't be able to come to the event.

I am looking forward to hearing from the organisers....
