We will welcome all the space fans at the DGA EM site of Biscarrosse from the 21st to the 29th of August 2010. Be prepared for some : sea, sun and …. rockets!!!!

Schedule

Attention please : this is not the final schedule, and it might change during the next two month. Rocket launches will take place from Monday morning to Friday afternoon. On Sunday 22nd we count on you to help setting up the launching area and on Saturday 28th to clean-up the launching area and the North Mess. Best projects will be rewarded during the closing celebration.

And during the week-end two experimental balloons will be released.

Project checks

All the experimental rockets that participate to the event must have been pre-qualified before the 3rd meeting of space clubs on June 19th. Please note that a qualification visit will be organised in Japan end of June for Japanese projects. Pre-qualifications of minirocket projects before the launching campaign are also warmly advised.

Your project's checks will start from Saturday morning and must be completed before Wednesday evening at 9:00 PM. Your projects must pass all the checks to get the launch approval. You'll only have one time slot to launch your project. If you miss it for any other reason than bad weather, you won't be able to launch it anymore.

Launches

Launches are planned over 5 days. The first days are traditionally reserved for rockets launched with a Cariacou motor (mini-rockets) under the responsibility of Planète Sciences. The end of the week is then reserved for rockets launched with a Barasinga or a hybrid motor (Perseus project), under the responsibility of both CNES and Planète Sciences volunteers.

During the same period, weather balloons will also be released.

Since 2008, a Cansat competition is also organized during the launching campaign. It consists of the release, from a weather balloon, of a soda can with onboard electronics (Cansat). Cansat must land and fulfill a specific mission, which will be evaluated by a jury. More about Cansat here: http://www.planete-sciences.org/espace/-CanSat-?lang=en

Entertainment in the DGA EM site

At the R3

'R3' is the key building of C'Space. Inside R3 you will find Planète Sciences and Carte Blanche receptions desks, refreshment area, conference room, clubs workshop and project's check stands.

Do not miss the "C'Space près de chez vous" (C'Space next door) which will be held every night of the week in the conference room. During half a hour, you will see reports from the different clubs present at the event (rocket, balloon, cansat clubs).

Each day the C'Space newspaper, called " The Gazette" will be published. Our team of volunteers will report to you all the good and funny stories and the news express of the C'Space.

All the launches will be retransmitted on screens inside the R3 building. Last but not least, don't forget to attend the CanSat competition and the Experimental balloon releases.

On the launching area

Each day, a speaker will describe the launches, live and entertain the attendance. You will also be invited to build your own water rocket and micro-rocket, yo discover the clubs projects and to discuss with them.

3. Get to the DGA EM - Housing - Catering

Get to the site DGA EM

DGA EM site is located in the French region called Aquitaine; it is about 670 km away from Paris and 80 Km South of Bordeaux. It is practically a military base; the base is closer to Biscarrosse beach than from Bicarrosse City. You can get there by:

Car: It takes about 6h from Paris.

Train: to Bordeaux and then by bus to Biscarrosse city. States bus travel every day between Bordeaux and Biscarrosse city. You will find the bus schedule on this web site : http://biscarrosse.com/Les-liaisons-Bus. Upon the arrival of the bus members of the organization can come to pick you up at Biscarrosse City and drive you to CELM.

Shuttle: the C'Space bus from Paris to the CELM:
- Departure : Saturday August 21st
- Return: Sunday August 29th

Two receptions desk

Once you have reached DGA EM site, follow the signs to North Mess (R3), where you will find the Reception Desks and car-park. You MUST go to both the receptions desk:

At Carte Blanche's Reception desk you'll get your ID pass, your room number, your car's access badge and any tourism information you may need.
At Planète Sciences' Reception desk you'll get the printed version of this notebook, your booth number at R3's workshop and any information you'd need regarding C'Space.

Your car, once emptied, must stay at the camp entrants car-park. Only one car by team will be allowed to move inside the camp between R3 and the housing buildings. The rest of the movements can be made bike or by feet. After 2:00 AM all traffic on the site must stop. A shuttle bus will be organised by the DGA EM to go to the minif or fusex launching area.

Housing

Your room is on the life base of the DGA EM site, at about 1km from North Mess. It will be assigned to you when you'll register for the event. You will be able to acces it only if you complete registration before July 17th. Each room is from 4 to 8 beds, with personal locker, 2 to 3 sinks and a shower.

Beware: rooms are not locked up with a key, so bring two padlocks. Bed sheets and blankets are provided but don't forget to bring your towels!

Catering

Each meal is to be taken at the restaurant of DGA EM site at indicated times. You will have to register before July 17th to get the access badges to the self-service restaurant.

1. What is C´Space?

The C´Space is one week, one town (Biscarrosse in France), two locations (the military base and the beach) and hundreds of fans or simply curious of space science.

In the military base (DGA EM)

If you have been granted the authorization to access the military base (see section registration), you will also be able to attend to launches of experimental rockets, cansats and weather balloons realised by space clubs. You could also participate to entertainment organised all week long.

Young people come from France, Europe and Japan to qualify and launch their space projects. Come to meet and support them!

In Biscarrosse-Plage (beach)

A Space Party will take place on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th August, at the esplanade of Biscarrosse Beach.

Have you ever built a water rocket or a satellite? Do you want to understand and test the action-reaction principle? Do you think you know everything about space: so be ready to challenge your knowledge during the space quiz? These topics are offered during the week-end to the general public gathering at the esplanade of Biscarrosse, from 1:00PM to 8:00PM. Alongside an exhibition about Space will be available to all and will be accompanied by stands presenting C'Space, DGA and Planète Sciences.

For the Aerospace clubs

Controls

Experimental rockets shall be pre-qualified before the 4th RCE meeting [1] (to take place the last weekend of June 2009). Further controls will be held directly in Biscarrosse. Club projects that are not ready on time will not be launched!

It is possible to organize an earlier pre-qualification by contacting Vincent RICHE: vincent.riche@planete-sciences.org. This technical-review is more than necessary if you conduct a mini-rocket project. Please note that for the space clubs from Japan, a dedicated pre-qualification review is planned begin of July 2009, in Japan.

[1] RCE: “Rencontre des Clubs Espace” – meeting organized by Planete Sciences, which gathers all the space clubs involved in the design of a space project to be set up during the year. Project follow-ups, technical reviews and presentations take place during this one-day meeting. A total of 4 RCEs are held over the year.
